MBBS BSc MRCGP
Trained in St George's Medical School London. Dr Rootes graduated in 1996 and worked in hospitals in South London before completing her training in Wick. Dr Rootes became a partner in 2005. She has a special interest in Paediatrics.

Dr Holden joined the practice in 2019. He Graduated from Dundee University in 1991. He has a special interests in Outdoor Medicine, Respiratory Medicine and Dermatology.

Dr Christen graduated from the University of Dundee in 2009 and joined the practice in 2019 after working as a GP in Edinburgh and Canada.
Kirsty joined the practice in October 2019. She qualified from the University of Stirling with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Since qualifying in 2012 until taking up this post she worked in the Acute Admissions ward in Caithness General Hospital. This allowed her to gain vital knowledge and experience with a wide variety of conditions.
She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Masters module with distinction in Clinical Assessment for Advanced Practitioners, Masters module with distinction on Clinic Reasoning, Judgement and Decision Making, Masters module with distinction in Non-medical Prescribing, Masters module in Minor Illness and a Diploma in COPD (which she has a special interest in. Kirsty is currently undertaking Masters modules in Minor Injuires, Asthma initial education module and Cervical Screening module.
Kirsty is extremely passionate about her job and is currently training to become an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. During her training she will be spending time with the Doctors where she will be receiving ongoing teaching and learning as well as studying numerous courses at Masters level.
Kirsty manages emergency triage calls as well as seeing patients in pre-booked appointments. She is also available for COPD and Asthma reviews.
Leona studied in Aberdeen at Robert Gordon University and attained her Bachelor of Nursing Degree in 2014. She worked in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Caithness General Hospital before joining the practice.
Leona is keen to expand her knowledge base and to continue studying while working along side the staff here at Riverview Practice to gain more experience and develop in the role of Advanced Nurse Practitioner. During her training she will be spending time with the Doctors where she will be receiving ongoing teaching and learning as well as studying numerous courses
Karen is our Mental Health Advanced Nurse Practitioner.
She has a BN in Psychiatric Nursing, BA (Hons) Psychology/Sociology, Independent & Supplementary Nurse Prescriber, Decider Skills - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy approach to help individuals recognise their own thoughts, feelings and behaviours, enabling them to monitor and manage their own emotions and mental health.
The Mental Health role has been designed to work alongside the primary care multidisciplinary team to assess, diagnose, plan, treat and manage the care of patients presenting with mental ill health such as low mood or anxiety who would traditionally be seen by the General Practitioner. The role is designed to help promote patients own well being and if required facilitate access to mental health and well being services.
Eleanor joined the practice in June 2007. She is available for general nursing care, for example ear syringing, eye washing, blood pressures, blood tests, immunisations and vaccinations. She is also available for cervical screening tests.
Donna joined the practice in December 2021. She started working for Lancashire Ambulance Service in 1997, 25 years ago where she discovered her passion for Emergency care. In 2000 she qualified as a Ambulance Technician then followed her dream to qualifying as a Paramedic in 2005 where she has continued her career in emergency care. Since joining our Practice she is now studying for a masters degree at UHI to develop in the role of Advanced Paramedic Practitioner. Between studies she works alongside the Doctors and Advanced Nurse Practitioners obtaining their teaching knowledge and experience enabling the learning and skills required in the development to Advanced Paramedic Practitioner.
Ashley qualified with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen in 2015. She has been working locally as a Musculoskeletal and Cardiac Rehabilitation Physiotherapist since then. She joined the practice in 2021.
Amy has a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy having qualified in 2017 and gained valuable experience working in Raigmore Hospital in a variety of specialties before coming home to Caithness to work in 2018.
She has a keen interest in MSK conditions and has completed additional training in various treatments including sports massage and acupuncture. She is currently undertaking a Diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine.
Danielle joined the practice in 2020. She is available for blood tests and blood pressure checks as well as ECGs, B12 injections and new patient checks.
Vivienne is available for blood tests, blood pressure checks, ECGs and B12 injections.

Ailie joined the practice in April 2019 and is our Advanced Pharmacist Practitioner. She conducts medication reviews and is available for medication queries, medication reviews, Chronic Medication Service (CMS) initiation, reviews & advice.
Nicola's qualification is MPharm and her role here at the practice is Primary Care Clinical Pharmacist.

Our health care team also includes the Community Psychiatric Nurses and Community Occupational Therapists. The social work department will be able to help you with problems relating to housing and finance as well as caring for the young, elderly or those with special needs or learning difficulties. They are now responsible for the placement of the elderly in residential and nursing homes. Because of the Care in the Community provisions everybody has a right to direct access to the social services through their local Duty Care Manager.
